What about True Preventive Health Care?

With the rising cost of private health insurance people are looking for an alternative to insure that there health care is covered

What about True Preventive Health Care?

With the rising cost of private health insurance people are looking for an alternative to insure that there health care is covered. The cost of the current medical system in Ireland is increasing all the time, because of this we should expect a proportional decrease in chronic disease. This is not the case however as Ireland has the third highest death rate from heart disease in the world. So what’s wrong?

Im my opinion more focus needs to be put on true prevention of disease. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Irish health care system is skewed toward treating illnesses and diseases, not preventing them. One reason for this is because the current definition of “preventive care” translates to some kind of diagnostic test for a possible existing illness, not a strategy for staying well.

We are all too eager to embrace screenings for diseases or illnesses we may or may not have, and counseling and/or medical treatment in the form of pills and chemicals and surgeries for it, after we find out what disease it is we have. This system comes at enormous monetary cost.

I feel the foundational cause of what's driving health care costs in Ireland is the emphasis on sickness and treatment, rather than health, fitness, and nutrition.

If we were to address this issue, and change the emphasis of our well-being to health and fitness, and then following a healthy lifestyle, I believe that the issue of sickness in Ireland and what it's costing us, will begin to decrease quickly.

Its time for a new paradigm. Instead of waiting until you get sick and then going to your doctor to get fixed, we need to take more responsibility for our own health and to be proactive about staying healthy and fit, through healthy diet and exercise and healthy lifestyle choices. This in my opinion is true preventative care.

To quote a medical doctor Dorian Paskowitz MD in his book Surfing and Health

“Health is more than the mere absence of disease, It’s the presence of a superior state of wellbeing, a vitality, that has to be worked for each and every day of your life, you cannot get it in a bottle or a pill – it has got to be gotten form diet and exercise and rest and recreation and positive attitudes of mind, working all together every day of your life”

Bottom line is when one shifts their perspective towards preserving and enhancing health, they tend to gravitate towards enhancing nutrition and lifestyle and the use of herbal medicines. Contact the clinic on 0719142940 or via email for more information
