Yet another scientific study on Echineace concludes its effecasy. Charles Clover today reports in the Irish Independent how the medicinal plant Echineace decreased the risk of catching a cold by 58%

A scientific study has shown what many people have been saying for years - that there really is a herbal remedy for the common cold. Echinacea can reduce the chances of catching a cold by more than half, researchers reported yesterday. The remedy, made from a group of related North American plants, also helps colds clear up more quickly, the findings suggest. Many advocates of Echinacea say they would never be without it during the winter months. Now, their faith appears to have been borne out by hard scientific fact. Researchers at the University of Connecticut in the US pooled evidence on the anti-cold properties of Echinacea from 14 studies and found that taking it decreased the risk of catching a cold by 58pc. The duration of colds was reduced by an average of 1.4 days
